Youth Exchange “Living European Books stories” in Messina, Italy

Courage foundation is glad to announce that it will be partnering in an Erasmus + youth exchange in Messina, Italy this upcoming September! The project will be held between the dates of 6th to 14th September 2023 and the main objective is to combat hate speech and discrimination by sharing experiences and opinions in a safe environment among participants. The project will rely on the so called ”human book method” which is designed to build a positive framework for conversations that can challenge stereotypes and prejudices through dialogue.Each person is a book on a particular topic and they are an open book in front of the audience which can ask questions and deepen the subject.

Project objectives:

  • increasing proficiency towards human rights
  • getting participants acquainted with the human library method
  • fostering vital 21st century skills and competences such as the ability to lead productive discussions, presentational skills, communication, leadership and more
  • intercultural competence
  • promoting the impact of Erasmus+ and encouraging participants to be more involved with the programme

Working method:

  • learning by doing
  • ice breakers and team-building
  • workshops for guided controversial discussions
  • brainstorming and interactive presentations

Target groups:

  • young people between the age of 18-25 and a focus towards participants with fewer opportunities

Apart from the activities, the project will host intercultural evenings which will contribute to the participants’ intercultural competence. They will be encouraged to bring anything that highlights their nationality and culture such as traditional food, clothing and of course – some typical dances and customs which they will show to their peers
